Trademark protection for imported goods
U.S. Customs and Border Protection provides protection against counterfeit, and in some cases grey market, trademark and copyright infringement at no cost to the savvy rights holder. Customs will actually monitor the border for shipments of potentially infringing goods and will alert the IP rights holder of the issue prior to the release of the potentially infringing goods. To take advantage of the program, the holder of a registered trademark or copyright must understand the scope to this protection and file an application to “record” the mark with Customs.
